My name is Daisy. This website is a fresh start, and a place for me to develop new ideas and products I hope you’ll love.
I originally developed the products with my partner, Tom (who is a trained furniture maker) and, together, we were Sitting in a Tree Crafts. It was our little escape from day jobs that we weren’t happy in. Fast forward a couple of years…we now have two children and Tom has settled into a new role making bespoke kitchens, which he loves. It feels time for me to take the reigns, only calling on Tom when I want a bit of help machining timber or sanding, and so ‘need a G&T’ is born.
The name comes from one of the most popular products, our oak chopping board for lemons and limes…essential for that weekend/mid-week/Friday/ cocktail, a gin and tonic!
It is really important to me where the timber comes from for the products I make. We are lucky to have a fantastic timber merchants, Whitney Sawmills, local to us. I can arrive at their yard and select the planks of timber I want to take-they are native woods, kiln dried and brilliant quality. As I buy the planks it means I can ensure I get the best out of the timber, cutting it into pieces before machining it to size and thickness to show off the gorgeous grain.
Once the wood is prepared it is ready for me to add the detailing using my trusty pyrography pen. I love how the burnt detailing finishes the products, and adding a special message or details to personalise items is my favourite job.
I have also introduced some printed items to the range, using a mixture of organic and fairtrade cotton. These items have been block printed using lino (cut by hand).
